PTC System Test Engineer

Job Summary:

A Positive Train Control (PTC) System Test Engineer is responsible to develop and conduct system test activities. The successful applicant will build and execute CN specific test cases to functionally and operationally validate the CN implementation of PTC, document results, identify failures to a root cause, and direct resolution of the failures. The PTC System Test Engineer will manage multiple validation activities with related work processes, equipment and CN resources in a manner consistent with safe working procedures and practices, ensuring maximizing asset utilization and controlling costs. This position will report to the Senior Manager PTC Testing and Regulation


Duties:

Manages schedule, budget, workforce productivity and manpower within CN policy and five guiding principles.
Develope CN specific test plans and test cases to functionally and operationally validate the safe and reliable operation of the CN implementation of PTC. Produces and maintains thorough documentation of all test cases, procedures and results. Develops automated test cases for regression testing of the system. Executes automated test cases for new configuration items. Works with CN and contractor personnel to validate the PTC system in the lab and field. Executes test cases, documents results and identifies failures to a root cause. This position will work closely with FRA test observers, dispatch office personnel, the TMDS support team, Operating Practices, Information Technology, railway operating personnel and other stakeholders associated with the PTC system who require system testing and documentation.

Working Conditions:

Maybe required to work on varying shifts to cover operations that run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work shifts may vary and will include weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays. Work is primarily in an office environment although there may be occasional requirements to work outdoors in varying types of weather. Some travel will be required including overnight stays away from home. Moderate to extensive travel required during Field Qualification Testing with FRA. Maybe required to respond to emergency situations.

Employment Requirements:
A certificate or associates degree in Electrical or Electronic Technology or Engineering.
Valid driver's license. A minimum of 2 years of prior experience in the development, automation and execution of system test cases.
Comprehensive working knowledge of engineering systems, infrastructure and related safety appliances and the applicable regulatory and railroad rules, instructions, practices, procedures and specifications.
Exceptional organizational skills and problem solving abilities. Must work well with others.
Good computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word).

Preferred:
Bachelors degree in Computer, Electrical or Systems Engineering or comparable degree.
1+ years prior supervisory experience.
1+ years of railroad experience as an engineering or operating employee.
1+ years prior PTC experience. Possesses an understanding of the system requirement and the underlying design.
USOR or GCOR qualified.
